Moundgone sugar refinery began to be built cooperatively by UREC and Great Wall Company of Myanmar at Kathar County of Hteejaunt City in Sagaing Province near the national way from Mandalay to Myitkyina in March 2005, the day amount of sugarcane refining of which was designed as 2000 tons and the actual refining amount can be up to 3000 tons. UREC was responsible for supplying the whole set of producing line to Great Wall Company of Myanmar. The refinery was successfully handed over and accepted by the user in October 2006. Great Wall Company of Myanmar invested to build a fuel ethanol factory by the refinery with the output of 40 thousand tons in January 2007 taking sugarcane, cassava and corn as the raw materials. The factory was tested and accepted on 30th May, 2008, the total investment amount of which was around US Dollars 11 million. Up to now, the factory has been operated smoothly with the product of ethanol with purity of 99.8% which has reached the international standard.
