After consultation with the Ministry of Electric Power of Myanmar in 2012, UREC has planned and prepared to construct a gas-fired combined power plant on the basis of build, operate and transfer (BOT) in Yangon, the largest power load center in Myanmar. On 14th, Nov. 2014, the project development agreement was signed by UREC and representatives from Myanmar at the presence of the leaders of China and Myanmar.
The project total installation capacity is 500MW, including 118MW for phase I and 382MW for phase II. Project phase I was started construction on 1st Jun. 2016 and has been completed on 28th Feb. 2018, the total duration is only 21 months. The project phase I is equipped with most advanced GE gas turbine power generation system with high efficiency imported from Europe. With one GE-6FA gas turbine generator unit plus one steam turbine generator unit for combined cycle, at least 720000MWh green and stable power energy will be supplied to Yangon region annually. At present, the project phase I has the fastest construction speed and highest generating efficiency as a gas-fired combined cycle power plant project in Myanmar.
